"Welcome to the Hellmouth" and "Harvest"
(This series premiere was originally aired as one two-hour episode but each
half is credited as its own episode) Buffy Summers (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and
her mother (Kristine Sutherland) move to Sunnydale, California (a.k.a. The Hellmouth)
to start a new life after Buffy was kicked out of her previous school for Burning
down the gym ("That gym was full of vampi--asbestos"). Buffy meets her new "Watcher",
Rupert Giles, who is also the librarian at Sunnydale High School. She also makes
some new pals, Xander Harris (Nicholas Brendon) and Willow Rosenberg (Alyson
Hannigan) who discover her secret identity. Buffy must face the fact that she
is the Slayer and she cannot escape her destiny. She meets a dark stranger in
an alley named Angel (David Boreanaz) who warns her of an evil plot in the making
and she must work with her new found friends and watcher to stop the "Master"
vampire (Mark Metcalf) from rising and killing everyone. Series creator Joss
Whedon wrote these episodes. "Welcome to Hellmouth" directed by Charles Martin
Smith and "Harvest" directed by John Kretchmer.

"The Witch"
Cheerleaders spontaneously combusting? Cheerleaders going blind? Cheerleaders
losing the power to speak? These are all indicators to Buffy (Sarah Michelle
Gellar) and the gang that a powerful witch is in their midst and is targeting
cheerleaders. Whoever said cheerleading wasn't dangerous? When the witch suspects
that Buffy is on her trail she casts a spell that is intended to take her out
of the running as well... permanently. Dana Reston wrote the episode directed
by Stephen Gragg.

"Teacher's Pet"
Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) suspects that the substitute Biology teacher has
hidden motives after discovering her attraction to Xander (Nicholas Brendon).
A lovesick Xander, thinking Buffy's accusations are made out of jealousy, disregards
her concerns. Little does he know that this decision may cost him his life.

"Never Kill a Boy on the First Date"
Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar), desperately seeking some normalcy in her hectic-slayer
life opts to go on a date rather than help Giles (Anthony Stewart Head) investigate
an ancient vampire prophecy. Meanwhile Giles gets himself into some trouble
when he goes to investigate alone and Buffy must go to his aid. She soon discovers
how difficult it is to separate her dating life from her slayer life as she
ends up putting her date's life in danger. David Semal directed the episode
written by Rob des Hotel and Dean Batali.

"The Pack"
Xander and several other kids from school start acting very strangely after
a run-in with some quarantined hyenas during the school trip to the zoo. Buffy
and Willow notice the aggressive changes in Xander's behavior but will they
discover what is behind these changes before it is too late? Charles Martin
Smith directed the episode written by Matt Kiene and Joe Reinmeyer.

"Angel"
The Master (Mark Metcalf) sends "The Three" (warrior vampires) after the slayer
(Sarah Michelle Gellar) to put a stop to her once and for all. The mysterious
stranger, Angel (David Boreanaz), comes to her aid once more and enables Buffy
to escape. Buffy and Angel can no longer deny their feelings for one another
and they share a romantic moment that leads to the discovery that Angel is not
as he seems. Michael Schultz directed the episode written by David Greenwalt.

"I, Robot -- You, Jane"
A demon is unleashed into cyberspace and is wreaking havoc. Meanwhile, Willow
has fallen for someone on the internet and Xander and Buffy are concerned that
this love interest may not be what he has led her to believe. Scott Brazil directed
the episode written by Ashley Gable and Thomas A. Swyden.

"The Puppet Show"
Giles is forced by the new principle (Armin Shimerman) to run this year's annual
talent show. He later orders Buffy, Xander, and Willow to perform. Meanwhile
there is a organ-harvesting killer among them. Buffy and the gang must solve
this murder mystery in time for their stage debut. Ellen Pressman directed the
episode written by Dean Batali and Rob des Hotel.

"Nightmares"
Something is causing the nightmares of the Sunnydale inhabitants to become a
reality. Buffy, Xander, Willow, and Giles must struggle to discover the cause
of all of this all-the-while having to face and overcome their worst fears.

by David Greenwalt.

"Out Of Mind, Out Of Sight" (a.k.a. "Invisible Girl")
Cordelia is the target of an invisible being that is seeking revenge and she
must turn to Buffy and friends for protection. Buffy and the Scooby Gang must
discover the motive of this being and a way to stop it before it is too late
for Cordelia. Reza Badiyi directed the episode with the story by Joss Whedon
and teleplay by Ashley Gable & Tom Swyden.

"Prophecy Girl"
As "Spring Fling" approaches Xander finally gets up the nerve to tell Buffy
how he feels about her and asks her to go with him to the dance. Meanwhile,
Giles deciphers an ancient prophecy that says Buffy will face the Master and
die. Buffy, terrified at the thought that she will die at the age of 16 attempts
to resign from the position of slayer. Of course deep down she knows it is not
that simple and she faces the fact that she has a responsibility to stop the
Master from rising and stop the world from ending. Joss Whedon wrote and directed
the episode.
